All Dressed Up With No Place to Go; youth desk makeover

I have had this desk downstairs in the Rec room, usually the TV sits atop it.  Nothing is safe from my paint brush these days, ha ha.

This new look was inspired by three different things.
1) I have been wanting to try out homemade chalk paint that I've been seeing on the net.
2) Honey Sweet Home painted a gorgeous dresser with black and white colour combination, and I LOVE it, simple but stunning, go here The Tuxedo Dresser - A Black & White Makeover  to check it out.
3) House Revival made some knobs using paper doilies, that I thought were pretty cute, go here to check them out.  I thought I could fancy up the knobs from this desk a little, instead of changing them out completely.
I mixed up the chalk paint, I didn't use black, but a very dark gray.  I cut shelves out of some laminated pine shelving that I had, and hung them on shelf hanger hardware.  Since it isn't being used as a desk, there might as well be shelves, they are perfect for dvd players, gaming console, etc if I put a TV on it.

I used a piece of jewellery finding that I had, flattened it out, and glued it to the centre of the knob.

I had every intention of scuffing this up a little bit, but it was so crisp and nice looking, I just couldn't do it.  I am going to finish it with satin Diamond Elite instead.

  1. What an amazing transformation! And the knobs are beautiful. I'm so glad I found your blog:)

  2. Great makeover! It looks so much better and really makes a statement now. Visiting from Just Something I Whipped Up party.

  3. This looks amazing Faye! Thanks so much for the mention, I love seeing your take on this look :) You did a beautiful job! Where did you get the jewelery you added to the knobs? Its so pretty, what a great idea to dress up plain hardware.

  4. Hi Samaa, thanks for the inspiration! The jewellery that I added is just some jewellery findings that I had in my stash, you should be able to find them anywhere you buy jewellery findings, I probably got mine from ebay because I don't have much opportunity for shopping locally.

  5. Love this look. I am a push over for black and white and the hardware is perfect. Thanks for sharing on beColorful.

  6. Great makeover!! I come across these little dressers all the time. I am going to be using this idea.

  7. Great job on the repurpose. I love the buttons! I found you through Roadkill Rescue!
